Relationships and Happiness
You don’t get into a relationship to get happy. It’s ok if you believe that, because most people do.
You don’t get into a relationship to get happy. It’s ok if you believe that, because most people do. Most people think that being in a relationship with their dream partner would equal happiness.
The problem is that you cannot expect your partner to make you happy. No one can do that except you. Yes, your partner will definitely bring more joy to your life, but they can’t be the only source of happiness for you.
So how do you bring more joy into your own life?
The best way to be happy is to be happy regardless of your relationship status. Be happy for no reason. Growing your happiness muscle takes time especially when you have been dependent on others for validation and happiness.
Start building that muscle first, by noticing the little things in life that bring a smile to your face.
It takes a while to be able to sustain more joy in your life, but it is so refreshing when you can shift your state to happiness quickly and on your own, even when it seems life has dealt you things that can disrupt your mindset. It’s an ongoing practice.
When something happens that might steal your joy, knowing that you can reframe it quickly so that your state returns to balance and a state of joy, is key.
Look around you. What do you feel excited and happy about right now? Today?
What would happen if you felt happy before you entered into a romantic relationship? What would it feel like to be able to feel completely content and at ease when spending time alone?
Happiness comes when you no longer need to be validated and entertained by others. It comes from those quiet peaceful moments when you know that everything you want is already inside of you. It really is. All the peace, joy, balance, happiness and harmony is already there when you know how to access
Imagine what life would be like if you could take yourself out for lunch, buy yourself flowers, take a holiday on your own, join a club because it makes you happy to get out and meet like minded people? In other words, learning to be independent will take the pressure off your partner if you are already in a relationship and it’s good practice before you get into a relationship too.
The best relationships are those where two people come together to give to the other person.
It’s not about giving so that you can get. A good relationship is where you give to each other without expectation of anything in return. It empowers both people to be all that they can be.
